Brewer's Blog - Keep'n it Fresh
Brewer’s Blog, Brewmaster’s Shadow Gail Brooks, 08282015: The freshest beers come from clean and sanitary draught systems. Although, draught beer quality is unregulated in the state of Virginia, Old Bust Head Brewing Company strictly adheres to, if not exceeds, industry best practices as established by the Brewer’s Association Technical Committee. Our Taproom faucets, growler fillers and glass washer are cleaned at every closing. Each keg coupler is cleaned before every connection. Our beer lines, growler filler lines and glass washer are sanitized and soaked every 2 weeks. The interior of our walk-in cold box, located behind the bar containing over 58 tapped kegs and 20 reserve kegs, is cleaned and sanitized every 2 weeks. Once a quarter, we disassemble all beer faucets and the cold box cooling system. Each beer faucet is inspected for signs of wear and degeneration, repaired if needed and sanitized inside and out. The interior of the cooling system is inspected and sanitized to prevent the growth of surface mold.
In addition to keeping it clean, all OBH beers are dated for freshness. Most of the time, Taproom beer is days fresh, making the Taproom the best place in Northern Virginia to enjoy quality craft beer produced under the strictest standards for freshness and health.
